LaPierre responds to Obama's 'absolutism' remark

National Rifle Association CEO and EVP Wayne LaPierre didn't back down at all Tuesday evening while responding to Obama's inaugural address:
"Yesterday, in his second inaugural address, President Barack Obama quoted the Declaration of Independence, and he talked about unalienable rights. I would argue that his words made a mockery of both."
At a hunting conference in Nevada, LaPierre proceeded to focus on one particular line in Obama's speech: "We cannot mistake absolutism for principle..."
"So, what is this absolutism that the President attacks? And what are the so-called 'principles' that he wants us to settle for instead? Obama wants to turn the idea of absolutism into a dirty word, just another word for 'extremism'. He wants you, all of you, and Americans throughout all of this country, to accept the idea of principles as he sees fit..."
Here's one more fiery line delivered from the NRA leader...
“I urge our president to use caution when attacking clearly defined absolutes in favor of his principles... When absolutes are abandoned for principles, the U.S. Constitution becomes a blank slate for anyone’s graffiti, and our rights and our freedoms are defaced.”

LaPierre closed with a powerful statement aimed squarely at Obama:
"We believe in our country, we believe in our Bill of Rights, and we believe in our Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, ALL of our Second Amendment, because we believe in our freedom and safety, and that it, and it alone, guarantees absolutely our freedom and our safety. Mr. President, you might think calling us 'absolutists' is a clever way of name-calling without using names, but if that is absolutist, then we are as absolutist as our Founding Fathers and the Framers of our United States Constitution, and we are proud of it!"
