"When the legislative and executive powers are united in the same person, or in the same body of magistrates, there can be no liberty; because apprehensions may arise, lest the same monarch or senate should enact tyrannical laws, to execute them in a tyrannical manner.Mark Levin opened his show this evening pleading his guts out with Republicans to use their constitutional power of the purse to stop this tyrannical president from legislating an unconstitutional executive amnesty, thus bypassing Congress...and they should take credit for it! Levin laid out the case for why Republicans must stop this president, even if it means shutting down the government, and they shouldn't fear it, but OWN IT!
Again, there is no liberty, if the judiciary power be not separated from the legislative and executive. Were it joined with the legislative, the life and liberty of the subject would be exposed to arbitrary control; for the judge would be then the legislator. Were it joined to the executive power, the judge might behave with violence and oppression.
There would be an end of everything, were the same man or the same body, whether of the nobles or of the people, to exercise those three powers, that of enacting laws, that of executing the public resolutions, and of trying the causes of individuals."
~ Charles de Montesquieu, 'The Spirit of the Laws' (1748)
"The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, selfappointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny."
~ James Madison, 'Federalist No.47' (1788)
"The House of Representatives cannot only refuse, but they alone can propose, the supplies requisite for the support of government. They, in a word, hold the purse that powerful instrument by which we behold, in the history of the British Constitution, an infant and humble representation of the people gradually enlarging the sphere of its activity and importance, and finally reducing, as far as it seems to have wished, all the overgrown prerogatives of the other branches of the government. This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure."
~ James Madison, 'Federalist No.58' (1788)
"And the legislature has and must have a controlling influence over the executive power since it holds at its own command all the resources by which a chief magistrate could make himself formidable. It possesses the power over the purse of the nation and the property of the people. It can grant or withhold supplies. It can levy or withdraw taxes. It can unnerve the power of the sword by striking down the arm that wields it."
~ Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, 'Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States' (1833)
"I want the Republicans to know, who are now a chorus of impotency, who have already surrendered in advance of a fight, their Article I power under the Constitution to use the power of the purse to stop the despotic actions of this imperial president. ...Listen to the rest at the link below:
You hear these Republicans selfishly talk about wanting to work with the president, wanting to show the American people they can get things done. You hear them selfishly talking about this election or that election. Folks, this is not about an election, it's not about the Republican Party, it's not about a Republican majority. Majorities come and go, Republicans come and go, politicians come and go, election cycles come and go. THIS IS ABOUT DEFENDING THE REPUBLIC! THIS IS AN ATTACK ON THE SEPARATION OF POWERS WHICH IS SO FUNDAMENTAL TO OUR SYSTEM! WE ARE REGRESSING; WE ARE GROWING INTO A FEUDALIST SOCIETY! THE POWER OF THE PRESIDENT THAT HE'S EXERCISING IS WELL BEYOND THAT THAT'S PROVIDED IN ARTICLE II.
And all we get is, 'NO, DON'T SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT! NO, WE'RE NOT GONNA USE THE POWER OF THE PURSE! NO, THE REPUBLICANS ALWAYS LOSE THE PR WAR! As if this is some damn water project! IT'S NOT A WATER PROJECT! WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THE VERY NATURE OF OUR REPUBLIC, THE STRUCTURE OF OUR CONSTITUTIONAL SYSTEM!
I CANNOT ABIDE A DESPOTIC PRESIDENT DAMAGING OUR REPUBLIC THIS WAY, AND A REPUBLICAN PARTY REFUSING TO STAND UP TO IT!
"And they tell us, "Oh, we can't shut down the government, the Republicans will get blamed!" THE REPUBLICANS SHOULD TAKE CREDIT FOR STANDING UP TO DESPOTISM AND DEFENDING THE DAMN REPUBLIC!" ...Here's more from Levin earlier this morning on WMAL:
The power of the sword is about to be wielded by the President of the United States as he seizes constitutional power from the United States Congress to exercise it illegally. He has said he is going to do it. He has said over and over that he's going to do it. His advocates and surrogates have said the same exact thing. And he's gonna do it more than once. He's gonna do it over and over and over again, because the opposition is FECKLESS! It's full of COWARDS! SELF-SERVING POLITICAL MUNCHKINS!"
Damn it, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Romney or Wicker, the people didn't place you back into power on the first Tuesday in November to sit there and occupy space, absolutely not to surrender, but to FIGHT!
ADDENDUM: Take it from Rush as well...It's time to Man Up, GOP!
