A house divided (UPDATES)

It was a few, then 19, 20...now it's up to 30! The number of states signing on for secession has grown in just a few short days, as have the signitors to these petitions. Under normal circumstances, I'd say there's a snowball's chance in Hell of this peaceably being allowed to occur...but under four more years of Obama and his destructive policies, who's to say. But citizens throughout most of the states are certainly giving it a Hail Mary pass...

ChristianNews: Americans representing states in over half of the country have filed petitions demanding secession from the union following the reelection of Barack Obama, and are calling for state government officials to resist the unjust laws enacted by the federal government.

The Obama administration set up an online petition system following his entry into the White House, in which citizens could implore the government to take a certain action. The petition needs to reach at least 25,000 signatures to be considered, and it must do so within 30 days.

While various groups and concerned citizens have used the system to submit a variety of requests, none have regarded secession thus far, and it is likely that none have gained as much momentum.

The first secession petition was filed the day after the election by a Louisiana resident, then by a Texas citizen. As word began to spread about the petitions, others began filing as well, until at press time, citizens from 30 states had submitted petitions — growing substantially over the past two days. Pennsylvania, Delaware, Ohio, Oklahoma and California all joined the list of petitions on Monday.

So far, the Texas petition has the most signatures, numbering well over 50,000. Residents of any state can sign the petitions, and most signatures seem to be from all over the country.

The text of the petition states:

“The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.”

Reports state that the Obama administration can decline to respond to a request, and it remains to be seen whether any type of response or recognition will be given to the secession petitions.

Nonetheless, many consider the petitions to be a bold statement to the government that it is not pleased with how Barack Obama is running the nation.

Just checked the Texas petition...it's now over 70,000 and growing as of this post.

Sure, I acknowledge the difficulties that secession will materialize from these redresses, but that word probably speaks more to what this is all about. Not only does our Declaration of Independence address the separation, alteration or abolition of destructive Government to institute new Government, but our Constitution also allows for a redress of grievances. It would appear that the attempt of many of these states is to gather their 25,000 signatures or beyond in an effort to force a response from the Obama administration. This is a demonstration of the deep division that exists within our country...and a message to the federal government that the states are fed up with the unbridled overreach and are ready to resist. If simply disregarded by the President, what's to keep the individual states from disregarding his edicts from on high? And where would our national military stand (many of whom's ballots weren't even counted in this election)? However serious you want to take this, the potential for it to get very nasty always lies in the realm of possibilities.

UPDATE: The tally of states petitioning for secession is up: 47 of 50!

UPDATE II: Now it's all 50 states! What happened to the Great Uniter? We've never had a president in my lifetime divide Americans like this...but then, that seems to be his goal.
