The time to strategize and fight was NOW...and Boehner bunted at the 11th hour. $38.5B in cuts is "historic"? No, this debt and deficit is what's HISTORIC! That amount is a mere drop in the bucket. Planned Parenthood PUBLIC FUNDING still intact, and the EPA riders where taken out hours ago. What they're calling the 'bridge bill' is being passed now to keep the government open through the middle of next week, giving them time to draw up the 'compromise'. What the GOP leadership has just done is to neuter Republicans (or spay, in light of actual "women's health services" that can be offered through ANY medical facility) by demonstrating our bark is more fierce that our bite. This hands over a weak playbook to our political adversaries for the coming battles on the debt ceiling and the 2012 budget. I'm thoroughly disgusted with this cowardice in the GOP leadership, which when down to the wire, has proven to be TERRIFIED of a government slowdown of nonessential services, on top of being incapable of effectively dealing with Democrat demagoguery, all while our more perfect union teeters on the brink.
