Obamanet advances with FCC net neutrality approval

"'Net Neutrality' is Obamacare for the Internet; the Internet should not operate at the speed of government." ~ Sen. Ted Cruz
Republicans are caving all over the place, conceding Tuesday to Obama and his 'army of internet activists' over the regulation of internet services (i.e., net neutrality). Today, the FCC approved net neutrality rules for their version of a so-called 'open internet' of which only they have determined. Oh, how fair and neutral...
NPR: The Federal Communications Commission approved the policy known as net neutrality by a 3-2 vote at its Thursday meeting, with FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler saying the policy will ensure "that no one — whether government or corporate — should control free open access to the Internet."

The policy helps to decide an essential question about how the Internet works, requiring service providers to be a neutral gateway instead of handling different types of Internet traffic in different ways — and at different costs.

"Today is a red-letter day," Wheeler said later.

The dissenting votes came from Michael O'Rielly and Ajut Pai, Republicans who warned that the FCC was overstepping its authority and interfering in commerce to solve a problem that doesn't exist. They also complained that the measure's 300-plus pages weren't publicly released or openly debated.

ADDENDUM: Remember Aaron Swartz? With more of these internet hawks out of the way, the government has at last seized its opportunity...

'Some of you may recall Aaron Swartz's Awesome Speech on Internet Freedom. If not, you should give it a listen. Aaron was so right on so many points and eerily predicted this day would come. In my opinion, his 'suicide' was very suspicious. Aaron was the activist that was almost solely responsible for blocking the passage of SOPA and PIPA (previous names related to bills that didn't get passed years ago). With the passage of time and with strong advocates like Aaron no longer in the picture, it cleared the path for The Department of the Internet! #NetNeutrality #NotFree' ~ pjstevenson2001
