A few noteworthy primary victories last night to watch for in the upcoming elections. First, let's go down to Florida. One for the House...
WPTV: Congressman Allen West has cleared the first hurdle in his efforts to go back to Washington.
The Congressman from the 22nd District easily defeated retiring Martin County Sheriff Robert Crowder in the Republican Primary for the newly formed 18th Congressional District.
"This is about you taking back this country to the true constitutional conservative principles," West told supporters who packed into his Stuart campaign office. "I think it's a testimony to all of these people here who rallied to us and went out to the streets and made this happen," he added.
...and one for the Senate...
AP: Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson will face Republican Rep. Connie Mack IV after both easily won their primary elections on Tuesday.
Mack will try to win back the seat once held by Mack's father, Connie Mack III. Nelson won the seat in 2000 after the elder Mack retired. Both Nelson and the younger Mack already have been preparing for a head-to-head matchup after facing weak primary opposition.
Also, looks like the former WWE exec is back for a second bout on the Connecticut Senate ticket...
CBS: Former wrestling executive Linda McMahon has won a chance to become the first Republican U.S. senator to represent Connecticut in three decades.
McMahon defeated former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays in Tuesday's GOP primary.
It's the second time the state's Republicans have chosen McMahon over a veteran politician as the standard-bearer in the general election for an open Senate seat.
The seat is being vacated by retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent.
