By keeping free contraception for employers at religious workplaces — but providing a different way to do it — the White House will assert it gave no ground on the basic principle of full preventative care that matters most to Obama.
So how is this 'accommodating'? Particularly when, as ABC reports:
The move, based on state models, will almost certainly not satisfy bishops and other religious leaders since it will preserve the goal of women employees having their birth control fully covered by health insurance.
And their parishioners, others of faith, and even those who are not but nonetheless honor liberty, all of whom have been outraged at this First Amendment trampling, can see through this unaccommodating, unsatisfactory double-speak, that in the statist's mind, government's role should provide free stuff as 'rights'. America was never meant to be a welfare utopia, Mr. Obama. Rights are unalienable.
UPDATES: With Friday's report of the Michigan-led lawsuits against the Obama administration's mandate, Obama's political hemorrhaging continued into the new week with bishops rejecting his 'accommodation'. And speaking to the latter, Paul Rahe of Ricochet wrote an intriguing piece detailing precisely how the Catholic Church's gradual involvement with the Democrat Party over decades misled them from once being staunch defenders of individual liberties to being sucked into the notion that the redistributive philosophy of the Left equates to charity, duping them into supporting such things as Obamacare; and in doing so, the Church finds itself in this current conundrum of governmental impositions against its core teachings.
