“I’ve always had a good relationship with Nancy Pelosi. I think I’ll be able to get along well with Schumer, Chuck Schumer. I was always very good with Schumer, I was close to Schumer in many ways.” ~ Donald Trump explained on MSNBC, January 2016Sigh. I take no pleasure in posting this one, but I said throughout the primary and into the general election that Trump was never gonna build a wall (among other necessities that wouldn't be accomplished). Then Chuck and Nancy assure us of that this week. Still, it is surprising (particularly to his voters) how much he seems to embrace amnesty for so-called “Dreamers” (what about OUR OWN American "Dreamers" also known as "our children?"), and after overturning Obama's executive order on DACA, now works with Schumer and Pelosi to push through legislation supporting it?! Who's the president? And which party is in charge, again? A quick look at his record begins to unravel the confusion...
On Thursday morning, the president sent a couple of tweets outlining a deal he made with minority leaders Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., to legalize DACA, granting amnesty to nearly one million illegal immigrants with unclear additional provisions for border security and no progress toward building a wall on the southern border.Levin not only presented an earful on the topic Thursday evening, but also explained the damaging effects of this leftward lurch on our election process and inevitably on our nation...
This position seems to contradict President Trump’s repeated campaign promises to fight amnesty for illegal immigrants. So what’s going on?Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military? Really!.....— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 14, 2017
...They have been in our country for many years through no fault of their own - brought in by parents at young age. Plus BIG border security— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 14, 2017
The truth is, President Trump has said multiple things on both sides of the issue. Conservative Review’s 2016 presidential profile rated Trump’s positions on immigration as “mixed.” There were several moments during the campaign and before he was running for president when Trump took strong positions opposing amnesty. [see full article for list] ...
Trump also, contradictorily, declared support for amnesty several times as a candidate for president and as a private citizen before running for office. [see full article for list]...— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 1, 2016
- Trump became supportive of the DREAM Act as early as 2013, when told a group of illegal immigrant activists “you’ve convinced me” to pass amnesty.
“When I’m president, I’m a different person. I can be the most politically correct person you’ve ever seen,” Trump said in January 2016.
Well, was Trump right? Does President Trump’s deal with the Democrats to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants without any funding toward the wall show he is a different person from the Donald Trump people voted for? Or, given his statements, did we know that Trump was pro-amnesty all along?
Thursday on the radio, Conservative Review Editor-in-Chief Mark Levin explained why you simply cannot grant amnesty to illegal immigrants before addressing border security.See, this is what inevitably happens when you divert from principled stands and get involved with snakes. You bend whichever way the political winds blow (constantly leftward these days), while they gleefully gloat over your corruption...
Cannot. Period. End of story.
Levin made his point by reading two articles. First was a piece by Mickey Kaus, “Don’t buy into all of that rosy PR about DACA.” This article identifies several problems with the liberal narrative on so-called “Dreamers,” and points out that the consequences of amnesty for some illegal immigrants now would inevitably lead to amnesty for millions more of legal immigrants later.
Levin shared Daniel Horowitz's Thursday piece on CR, “Trump's GOP amnesty will bring in millions of ... Democrat voters.” Horowtiz’s point is that Trump and the Republicans are inviting GOP electoral suicide by entertaining amnesty – a point Trump himself made in 2013!
Amnesty is suicide for Republicans. Not one of those 12 million who broke our laws will vote Republican.Obama is laughing at @GOP.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 19, 2013
“So, as you can see, there are consequences that the president, and his staff, and the Republicans are not considering but Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are well aware of,” Levin said.
“This is how they are taking down red states. This is how they will win future elections.”
It has long been known that Donald Trump likes Chuck Schumer, but on the Senate floor [Thursday] morning, after their dinner [Wednesday] night with the President, Chuck Schumer admitted it. He admits the President likes the Democrats and that the President understood he should zig-zag going left and right to get things done.Related links: No Wall! TheResurgent: Back in September, President Trump and congressional Democrats announced that they were close to a deal that would allow “Dreamers,” illegal aliens who were brought to the US as children, to stay in the country. Now a new framework issued by the White House may kill the budding agreement before it is finalized and sent to Congress. This is the kind of elections-have-consequences agenda driver towards illegal immigration, border security and national sovereignty expected from this administration. Now stick to it!
The Trump Administration delivered a list of “principles” to congressional leaders Sunday night that included funding for Trump’s border wall, an item that Democrats say was specifically excluded from the deal in their earlier negotiations.
In a joint statement quoted by Reuters, Minority Leaders Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Nancy Pelosi (D-Cal.). said, “The administration can’t be serious about compromise or helping the Dreamers if they begin with a list that is anathema to the Dreamers, to the immigrant community and to the vast majority of Americans.” They continued, “The list includes the wall, which was explicitly ruled out of the negotiations. If the president was serious about protecting the Dreamers, his staff has not made a good faith effort to do so.”
In September, President Trump gave Congress six months to find a legislative solution to continue President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. A short time later, President Trump and Democrats announced that they were close to a deal on extending the program.
In addition to funding for the wall, the list also includes verification of immigration status for workers, revising the criminal code to increase penalties for immigration violations, increasing the ability of the government to deport illegal aliens, streamlining the legal process for deportations and limiting protections for asylum-seekers and unaccompanied minors. A White House official denied that the list violates the terms of the agreement with Schumer and Pelosi. “There was a deal to work on a deal as fast as possible, that’s what the deal was,” the senior administration official told CNN.
The official also said that the Administration still opposes a pathway to citizenship. “As we look to legalize the status of DACA recipients, we are not interested in granting citizenship,” he said.
It is not clear how firm the White House is in demanding the items on its wish list. Many of the items on the list would almost certainly scuttle any agreement between congressional Republicans and Democrats.
