CR: The United States is under siege by a disgusting and increasingly violent form of tribal politics. The worst of it was witnessed in Charlottesville over the weekend, when violent white supremacists met violent Antifa leftists, and a person was killed.FYI, I've only omitted a few posts just to focus in on his broader message...
So where does that leave the rest of us? In a tweetstorm, NRA News Radio Host Cam Edwards tries to answer that question. This is really worth the read:
He ends his tweetstorm with a few more that sum up how his tribe doesn't pretend to have all the answers to all our problems, but it is a big tent stocked with plenty of freedoms, so everyone just needs to leave your BS outside. Amen, brother!Since we seem to be regressing to tribal politics, I've been thinking about what tribe I belong to. It sure ain't antifa or neo-nazis. /1— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 14, 2017I can't stand either group, and frankly, they can't stand me. /2— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 14, 2017Antifa hates me because I believe in individual freedom and liberty, equality for all, and think socialism is poison. /3— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 14, 2017The neo-Nazi's hate me because I believe in individual freedom and liberty, equality for all, and think racial superiority is bullshit. /4— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 14, 2017See, my tribe believes that MLK's hope of one day judging by character not color is a guiding principle, not an error. /6— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 14, 2017My tribe doesn't burn crosses or American flags. Maybe a good cigar on the weekend. /8 pic.twitter.com/eg0RR6Zuvp— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 14, 2017My tribe are the "live and let live" Americans who want to enjoy their own life w/o being forced to conform to someone else's ideology. /9— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 14, 2017My tribe believes that the US has never been perfect, but it has been and remains a powerful force for good. /10— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 15, 2017My tribe knows as long as Communism and Fascism has been around, there've been Americans trying to foist them on us. /11— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 15, 2017My tribe knows there's one big commonality to both poisonous ideologies: the death of individual liberty& freedom. They are un-American. /12— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 15, 2017Here's what my tribe thinks of authoritarians and totalitarians. /13 pic.twitter.com/ehH5tY8gFz— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 15, 2017My tribe does not belong to the Butthurt Brigade; those Americans who exist to be offended. /14— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 15, 2017My tribe tries to live without rancor, but admits it's a challenge these days. /15— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 15, 2017Most days, my tribe would rather read a book than scroll their Twitter feed. And we do. /16— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 15, 2017My tribe believes the freedom to learn, to read, and to listen is just as important as the freedom to speak, write, and opine. /17— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 15, 2017My tribe isn't interested in burning country and Constitution to the ground and hoping to rebuild utopia on the ashes. /19— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 15, 2017My tribe thinks it's futile to expect government to fix us. Politics is downstream from culture. /20— Cam Edwards (@CamEdwards) August 15, 2017
Simply brilliant. All I'd add is that 'my tribe' strives towards the greatest commandments: Love God and Love your Neighbor.
Much LOVE for this fellow American and to all my fellow Americans!
A Prayer for Our Country
ALMIGHTY God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage; We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favour and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honourable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogancy, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.Related links: WTF MSM!? Nazis and Communists are both evil …
Don't remove Houston's Confederate statues. Put them in context.
